Club Derby

2023 Derby was actually a lot of fun. I had joined the Sons of Italy (no, I am not a son, nor am I Italian, but…) in September and they had a party for the first time! I wore the feathered hat from a few years ago and reclaimed my best hat title. I had invited a lot of my friends as guests, so I was way too busy to take a picture. I hope they have another party next year. Way closer than the other place we used to do the Derby.

This was the second Derby party that the club hosted and I brought out another classic hat since it had its debut in my yard to a limited audience and it deserved another moment. My friend showed up with an awesome hat, so we were truly the belles of the ball.

The next year, I decided the Club needed some butterflies to brighten up the place. I kinda love that I get to rewear all my creations because I changed the location. Might be an old hat for me, but new to everyone else!

I was a bit unsure of what was happening for Derby 2026 as we are switching out a housemate but the club was having another party. So I whipped up a batch of Party Juleps and Bourbon Balls, then dusted off an old hat (one of my favorites). Believe it or not, I still have glow sticks leftover from the hat I put together in 2016 and they still worked! I definitely learned from past mistakes and only added glow sticks to the center of the hat. (I call it a decision, but in reality, I only had a few glow sticks left, so… there you go.) I cracked the sticks and added them to the ribbons, so much lighter and easier to wear!
